Client Support will provide support for the business and work efforts of University employees. arrow Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac is Here [April 8th 2008] - Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac is available for installation on campus-owned machines. Faculty and staff need to contact their department's computer support technician or Client Support (2-9800) to request the software. Employees can purchase work-at-home licenses through Client Support. Students can obtain the software from Seawolves MarketPlace with their Stony Brook

arrow Computer Assistance Offered to Students [January 23rd 2008] - On Sunday, Jan. 27, technicians from SB's Division of Information Technology will be on hand to assist students with computer registration and wireless issues from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. in the SAC's Traditions Lounge. Students who have computer issues that take longer to attend to will be encouraged to bring their machines to the Client Support Drop-in Center on the fifth floor of the Melville Library (Room S-5410). ...More Information
arrow Lotus Notes 8 Basic Available on Softweb [January 23rd 2008] - Users with Windows 2000, 2003, or XP who want to upgrade to Lotus Notes 8 Basic can download the software from Softweb. Users will find little difference between Notes 8 Basic and Version 7.0.3. SOLAR System Being Upgraded [December 6th 2007] - The online SOLAR System will be upgraded to provide additional functionality and a better platform to make additional improvements from in the future. New Version of EndNote Available on Softweb [October 17th 2007] - EndNote X1 is the latest version of the EndNote bibliography, reference-organizing software. Stony Brook University community members can download it for free from Softweb. New features include the ability to drag and drop references into groups, the establishment of an EndNote X1 tab in Microsoft Word 2007 so you can "Cite While You Write," and an improved library list display. ...More Information
Vista Update [October 10th 2007] - Client Support is not endorsing the Microsoft Vista operating system on faculty/staff machines until university business applications are certified. Testing is still underway. An announcement will be made once Client Support begins supporting Vista on these computers.

Summer 2007

All Faculty and Staff Now Have 500 MB of File Storage [August 24th 2007] - Students have been enjoying this benefit for the past year. Now Stony Brook University is providing 500 MB of file storage for all faculty and staff called MySBfiles. Files saved here are accessible on any machine with a web browser from on or off campus. The files are backed up at regular intervals, protected by AntiVirus software, and can be easily recovered. ...More Information
Lotus Notes is Portable and Available on Softweb [July 10th 2007] - Portable Notes is an installation of Lotus Notes on a USB flash drive that you can take with you anywhere. When plugged into a PC, you can start up your own copy of the Lotus Notes client. Guard Against Laptop Theft [June 20th 2007] - Several campus laptop computers have been reported stolen in recent weeks. Apple Store No Longer Requires Authentication [June 11th 2007] - You no longer need to log in to Softweb and provide authentication in order to visit the online Stony Brook University Apple Store. Shoppers can proceed directly to www.apple.com/edu/stonybrook in order to take advantage of their Stony Brook discount when purchasing Apple equipment.
Apply for a Lotus Notes or MS Account Off-Campus [June 1st 2007] - You no longer have to be on campus to apply for a Lotus Notes or MS account. Being able to do so from a location other than the Stony Brook premises was instituted recently to aid members of the university community. ...More Information

File Server Maintenance [May 24th 2007] - Departmental shares on File Server ADMIN06 will be unavailable between the hours of 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday night, May 25 for scheduled maintenance. During this time, additional disk capacity will be placed online.

Has Your Laptop Battery Been Recalled? [May 4th 2007] - Click on the following link to find out if your laptop is involved in a battery recall. Evidently, laptop battery recalls have expanded in scope to include many manufacturers. The New York State Office of General Services prepared this list of manufacturer web sites to help you determine if battery recall applies to you and your machine.
Internet Capacity Doubled [April 26th 2007] - The capacity of the campus connection to the Internet was doubled on Tuesday evening, April 24, 2007. This new capacity will yield faster, smoother data transfer. The previous capacity increase was also a doubling of capacity that occurred only two years ago.
